Post Traumatic Stress Disorder

My friend and co-worker, Art Acosta is one of many that have paid the ultimate sacrifice for their country. He served in our Military during the Iraq conflict. After suffering a life threatening wound, he is now living life combating post traumatic stress disorder (PTSD).

I have met many people that have served our country, being that my life’s work revolves around the military.

What I have observed, are people that have not received diagnosis and/or treatment for PTSD, when in fact they do suffer from it.

While others have been diagnosed and/or treated for PTSD, when in fact it is not.

Art is the REAL DEAL.

He is a man that always seems to make me laugh…a man that I respect immensely…and a man that truly embodies the American Spirit when confronted with the challenges and adversity that most only experience through movies.

Art’s brother recently introduced a short film on his brother, and I for one hope to see a feature film someday.

We need to ensure our vets that truly suffer from PTSD receive the medical attention they DESERVE!

I am always grateful that there are men and women willing to do the things that I dont have to or want to. In high school, my best friend’s dad suffered from PTSD….he was also the “real deal”. He was a vietnam veteran and would wake up in the middle of the night convinced the viet cong were surrounding the house and shoot out the windows. He got no help and maybe didnt even know he should seek it out. They just ‘lived with it”. I always worried for that family. I hope your friend’s story does get told. Its important.

My late father suffered from PSTD. He would wake UP in the night dreaming he was in the Philippines again. The VA finally took care of him: money, help, meds. It was better. He paid a great price.
