This summer has officially become too hot for me to handle. Don’t get me wrong, I love it when it’s hot…but this? You have got to be kidding me! This god awful heat wave began as an unassuming, ‘normal’ Texas summer, only to become a scorching hot drought. The last time I can remember it being close to this would be back in 2006. When Lake Travis was some 20 feet low!
Kinda like the cute dog that befriends ya…only to end up constantly trying to hump your leg! It’s cute for a while, irritating for a bit more, then down right frustrating. It’s got me seeing red I tell ya, and not that kind of red either.
Just a couple of the highlights for the Central Texas area:
- In Austin:
- In Waco:
…highs have dipped below 100 only once in the last 39 days
…we’ve seen 25 consecutive 100+ days
…we’ve seen 57 triple digits days this year (record: 69 – 1925)
…we’ve gone 49 days with less than 0.10″ rain
…we’ve seen 42 consecutive 100+ days (tied all-time record w/1980)
…we’ve seen 63 triple digits days this year (record: 63 – 1980)
…we’ve gone 49 days with less than 0.10″ rain
Texas heat wave is taking its toll on the birds and the bees
Don’t be hogging the water…leave some for the birds, please
It’s so hot in Texas, I’m unable to watch television…it’s a plasma…and it’s like firing up the grill in the living room. It’s so hot here in Texas, I can eat my cornflakes, but forget about the sex.
We do keep lots of water around for the animals…a five gallon bucket and pale for the deer, as well as bird baths for the…wasps?
How’s the weather where you’re at? Let us know…and please bring the rain drops with ya!

We have had the same misery here. Day after day over 100 and no rain. Finally the last couple of days we have gotten a bit of rain and its a tad cooler. The bees line up at the bird bath all day. I have a squirrel that waits for me in the afternoon to bring him some food. I normally dont feed in the summer but I after I saw a raggedy looking squirrel on his last legs…..I couldnt help myself. My hummingbirds are gone as are the butterflies. I like summer but I am so done with it this year.
The wildlife rescue here is overwhelmed with animals. Deer brought in with their eyes completely covered in ticks and unable to see. Thank you my friend for watering your deer!
It’s been a Long Hot Summer here in the ATL! I’ve been over it for weeks!
