Mourning our Soldiers

30 American service members, lost their lives after the CH-47 Chinook helicopter used to transport them was shot down.

A current U.S. official and a former U.S. official said the Americans included 22 SEALs, three Air Force combat controllers and a dog handler and his dog. The two spoke on condition of anonymity because military officials were still notifying the families of the dead.

All but two of the SEALS belonged to the same unit that killed Osama bin Laden more than three months ago.

Unclear right now whether this tragic event took place before or after their mission…racing out to help fellow comrades in arms, an Army Ranger unit, (about 60 miles southwest of Kabul), it has become the single worst loss for us since the war on terrorism began.

And it hits very close to home for me.

My son, who is an Army Ranger, will be deploying for his sixth time very soon. SIXTH TIME!!

Mourning our Soldiers…

mourning our soldiers

…for it is their sacrifice which ensures our freedom

“No words describe the sorrow we feel in the wake of this tragic loss,” General John Allen, who took over from General David Petraeus three weeks ago as commander of International Security Assistance Force (ISAF), said in a statement released overnight. “All of those killed in this operation were true heroes who had already given so much in the defense of freedom.”

The next time you see a fellow service member, thank them from the bottom of your heart for the unconditional sacrifice they endure for our country…for us.

So horrifying. All of these losses are horrifying. My heart goes out to their families.

My heart to you as well, as you send your son off again. I pray he stays safe and comes home quickly.

Glad to see you posting. We have to remember these folks. I cant stand seeing our soldiers get lost in politics. Yes, you know I am a raging liberal but nothing makes me prouder than our men and women in uniform, nothing.

Hey christina…glad to see there are a couple people that haven’t forgotten about me completely! Liberal or conservative matters not…when it comes to those who protect and sacrifice for us all.

HEAR HEAR! I just saw today that our fine soldiers have delivered justice to those that did this. (I dont forget one of my favorite blogs)

Thanks for the comp. I know I’ve been away (off-line) for quite a while…but that’s about to change! Hope to see more of ya christina. :)

–>My best friend is a member of this team. This really hits close to home as all of these people were our neighbors, their kids go to school with mine, we shop in the same grocery stores. We are a community even though I didn’t know them personally.
On Saturday our very good friend came over with the weight of the world on his shoulders. I did what anyone else would do, I got him beer after beer and distracted him by sending him swimming with his kids in our pool.
