Armadillo Love

It seems to The Urban Cowboy, every time I watch the news there is somebody somewhere that is taking a loved one’s life from this world. I don’t know about you, but I for one will do whatever it takes to protect the one’s I love.

Have you had a chance to watch The Lovely Bones? If not, you should! Even though it is a fictional story, there are many other stories that are true…and much worse.

Have you ever experienced an online predator or stalker? Hopefully not, but there are those that have.

Just recently, Jared Loughner killed six people and wounded 14 others in an attempt to assassinate Rep. Gabrielle Giffords.

I don’t know about the rest of you…but The Urban Cowboy is ALL ABOUT SAFETY…ESPECIALLY WHEN IT COMES TO THOSE CLOSE.

I even subjected myself to being sprayed with pepper spray, in order to determine its effectiveness.

My conclusion…nothing beats a little Armadillo Love!

–>We all need to practice some common sense and thankfully, everyone I know has stayed safe.

Common sense, and an awareness of our surroundings goes a long way.

One of the main reasons my hubby was so easily convinced to move to Texas was their gun laws. He got his CCL as soon as he was able. He’s also of the belief that it should be carried always. Well, except for where it’s illegal to carry (schools, bars, etc) and he’s very aware of postings and what not. I am not as into it as he is but once I decide what gun I want to carry I will get my CCL too. As you can tell we’re not anti gun, we’re anti morons. When seeing all of these shootings the only thing I can see in common is mental illness. Sadly all of the parents of these shooters say the same thing, they didn’t see it coming. Yet if you look at the person’s history it’s not like it couldn’t be seen, more like people pretended not to see. Denial, it’s the root of all sins, even the 7 deadly. I think if the government put as much effort into helping those suffering from severe mental illness as they do into gun control they’d actually make a difference. Since what they’re doing now obviously isn’t working.

I’m all about protecting myself and mine. Yes, they are definitely bringing to light his propensity for destructive, and fatal (to others) behavior.

christina January 17, 2011 at 7:40 pm

I, like you will do whatever I must to protect me and mine. However, life can take you by surprise no matter how protected we think we are, no matter how badass we imagine ourselves to be. Someone can walk up beside us at the grocery store and blow our brains out with no warning. How you prepare for that is beyond me. As far as mental illness, most of the mentally ill are not violent so I cant fathom how we can tell which ones will be violent and which ones wont. We are all vulnerable but fear can paralyze us. I cant imagine cold bloodedly killing an innocent person but I am still trying to grasp that anyone could point a gun at a child. Dont know why I am surprised, parents murder their own children everyday.

The best way to be prepared for the unknown is to be aware of our surroundings. No matter where I am, I mentally make note of the people around and their behavior. I am fortunate that this comes second nature (military training SO). Even so, I agree with you that you never really know.

christina January 18, 2011 at 5:53 pm

Too true. My pistol is loaded and ready at all times but I dont carry it with me. I have mixed feeling about the concealed carry laws. I dont like to advertise that I have a gun and I dont think the goverment needs to “ok” my gun. I bought it legally and I am not a criminal so its not their business.

I should be more aware though. Today I tried to get in the wrong car at the grocery store. Yep, I am really aware of my surroundings.

The Urban Cowboy January 19, 2011 at 5:19 pm

Too funny, Christina. I, like you, don’t really carry a concealed weapon, but I am prepared…no matter if I’m packing or not.

Nice to see a post from you today. I agree, I don’t even like to listen to the news because it is so tragic all the time, so I don’t! We are protected but not with a cool armadillo!

Little Gucci (my pink .45) is rarely far from my side. I’m a HUGE advocate of gun rights, as I’m sure you must know.

Love your armadillo!

And very happy to see you around here again!

I’m not a gun-totin’ mama, but I agree that it’s a scary world out there. I guess my weapons of choice are prudence, judgment, and a healthy dose of common sense.

Glad to see you posting again, Cowboy.

Your choice of weapons are much more effective than any gun I know of.

ann January 18, 2011 at 1:26 pm

well that’s some armadillo there. I don’t have a gun but I totally believe in the right to have one. Even though I live in a small town where not much happens that doesn’t mean it’s completely safe. I learned the hard way that even someone you think is your friend can’t always be trusted. Friend or not when he messed with my kid he ended up in jail.

Don’t know the story, but glad to hear he is behind bars. Hope your kid is all right.

Mikey January 18, 2011 at 4:12 pm

I wrote a little about this and lost 3 followers, lol. Oh dear. I think it’s a tragedy what happened, and I do think that guy was mentally ill. I also think yes, people should carry. But responsibly. If I was in that situation, I think my priority would be to get the hell out of there as fast as possible, especially if I had my child with me like I usually do. It wouldn’t be good to shoot into a crowd of people, and apparently several people on scene were carrying and didn’t shoot. You just never know how it will be. As I said on my blog, I’ve been robbed at gunpoint up close and personal and I didn’t like it one bit. If I’d had a gun, it wouldn’t have mattered because he was on me too quick. He had me and we all knew it.
I think what happened in Tucson was a terrible thing done by a terrible person and I’m glad this state has a death penalty and uses it.

Sorry to hear you suffered at the hands of a criminal, but glad to know you are around to talk about it.

There is a difference between people who carry, and those that know how to react to a bad situation. A weapon is only effective if the person wielding it knows how to react and is comfortable doing so in the face of danger.

To “get the hell out of there”, especially with children, would be the best thing I can think to do in a situation like that.

Hey Mikey,
I’ll second you. Grab that kid and book it outta there. Way to go dad.

Hi, wife…{kissing lips}…the honeymoon has just begun!

citymom January 20, 2011 at 8:14 am

Welcome back TUC and howdy to the Saint you married :)
There is so much violence and it’s senseless. Why in the name of Johnny Depp’s ponytail can’t people just chill! And yet,
if you or anyone else threatens my family I will happily claw your throat out. Much more satisfying than shooting…but it is time to get back to the range with my poppy (BIG :) . This just inspired a holiday photo post! I’ll just say someone got a rifle for Xmas.

Kind of glad to see you back, Donna (Made in Heaven) inspiration that she is…and UP and Megan have all kept me inspired.

Glad you posted and I hope you are doing fantastic. I hope his new year is off to a wonderful start for you and your family. You have been missed.

I have had several experiences with having to protect myself. I have to admit I failed for a long time… I finally made a brave choice a while ago and changed my situation. (I don’t feel the internet is a place to post all the details) I do admit I do need to take steps to be more alert and find the value in myself again, not sure why that part is taking so long. I am still working on that.
