The Obama Message

by The Urban Cowboy on April 10, 2010 · 18 comments

President Obama promised America change if elected. With the passing of the health care reform bill, change is definately in the air.

Change will not come if we wait for some other person or some other time. We are the ones we’ve been waiting for. We are the change that we seek. ~ Barack Obama

Whether or not you care for the direction President Obama is taking America, there is one point we can all agree on, he is very good at getting his message across.

Obama cares and his message of change

I have to wonder who the gesture is really aimed at. Is it Fox or is it the American public. Change can be good but Obama’s change I believe I can do without.

Hi Donna, I think many others like yourself are waiting for elections later in the year for that very reason

Hi Ocean Girl, we are only passionate about our respective positions/beliefs is all…I think the question for me is “what has he done that he SAID he would do?”

Yepper, I voted for him too. I was truly hoping for nationalized health care.
But I’m convinced that he cannot be worse than his predecessors.

I think everyone is giving him such a hard time and it’s just not right everyone wants to blame him for things he is trying to correct. Let’s cut him some slack this job is not easy nor is it a walk in a park. Let’s show some RESPECT for OUR PRESIDENT.

Welcome sparkle-star, you are absolutely correct we should, as I do have respect for the office of our President.

It seems like passionately disagreeing with the policies of Our President has labeled many folks disrespectful. Would using a photo of our President in a way that expresses a derogatory sentiment be disrespectful to the Office of the President? It’s easy to agree that the Office of the President SHOULD be respected but it seems that “respect” is defined by ones own personal opinion in our current culture, and to our detriment, no two are alike.

Hi bfitz & welcome,

I believe voicing an opinion and respecting the office of the Presidency are two separate issues. Our Nation was built on peoples opinions. It is when we become silent, afraid to voice our opinions that we are doomed.

All tyranny needs to gain a foothold is for people of good conscience to remain silent. – Thomas Jefferson

The Constitution is not an instrument for the government to restrain the people, it is an instrument for the people to restrain the government – lest it come to dominate our lives and interests. – Patrick Henry

I predict future happiness for Americans if they can prevent the government from wasting the labors of the people under the pretense of taking care of them. – Thomas Jefferson

When the government fears the people, it is liberty. When the people fear the government, it is tyranny. – Thomas Paine

A body of men holding themselves accountable to nobody ought not to be trusted by anybody. – Thomas Paine

The democracy will cease to exist when you take away from those who are willing to work and give to those who would not. – Thomas Jefferson

It is the duty of the patriot to protect his country from its government. – Thomas Paine

I agree UC, we certainly are doomed if voicing our opinions should be feared. As to respect, should the manner in which one voices their opinion be subject to it? Opinions and respect whether to others or the Office of the Presidency may be two separate issues but the opinion that matters to me is the one who’s convictions are expressed with respect.

I too respect our founding fathers and the principles that formed our great country. I would like to contribute two more quotes to your list for consideration, respectfully.

“A democracy is nothing more than mob rule where fifty-one percent of the people may take away the rights of the other forty-nine.” Thomas Jefferson

“The republican is the only form of government which is not eternally at open and secret war with the rights of mankind.” Thomas Jefferson

Got ten minutes? Check out “The American Form of Government” on youtube.com. A great history lesson for the whole family about the various forms of government and why we are a republic and not a democracy.

Late to this little party, obviously, but my two cents are as valuable as someone else who adds a million dollar comment to the discussion, so. You’re welcome in advance for that.

I think it’s becoming more and more clear as he gets further into his term and continues to erode away at the things we hold most dear in this country just exactly who that finger is directed at. Us. Even the Sillies who voted for him. Trivial things like, you know, the will of the people, what’s good for the country, our status as the word’s lone super power, personal liberty, economic growth, etc. just really aren’t important to him when they interfere with the radical agenda he insists on ramming down our collective throat.

At least we can be reasonably confident things will shift after midterm elections.
