Haiku Heights: Festival

by The Urban Cowboy on August 24, 2010 · 63 comments

This is a Haiku Heights entry for the prompt: Festival

Haiku Heights is a place for weekly Haiku prompts. Each Sunday, a word is given as the theme for the week’s haiku.

Hope you all enjoy as I indulge a little in the art of haiku.

Haiku Heights

Seductive allure,

ravenous thirst anointed,

courtship festival.

What is it you thirst for? Let us know!

Consciousness in a big cup
Sweet wake up coffee

How’s that?

Awesome! I’m enjoying a cup of the good stuff right now!

Nice haiku. You really are good with haiku. And your picture adds to the theme of the haiku.

Sips of sun, birdsong
No more gulps of rainy skies
That’s what I thirst for

Yours is ever so much more uplifting. Haiku about the weather is a bit gloomy (not to mention grammatically incorrect), I admit. but after three days of rain, I’m drowning here. When will this rain end?

Hi ya Patti! I think yours is uplifting as well as it speaks of sun and birds singing. Very nice, indeed. :)

Ramona August 24, 2010 at 7:34 am

You did another great Haiku. You used the theme word well.

You definately have a knack for it.

Awe shucks, thank you kindly Ramona, and how is my favorite redneck doing this fine morning? Busy, I bet!

The Ninja August 24, 2010 at 9:39 am

Wine…a nice bottle of malbec….and silence….no kids screaming or dogs fighting….and peace…no Mormon knocking on the door when the Inn is closed for the summer….

The Urban Cowboy August 24, 2010 at 9:55 am

Sadly, I would only be able to help with the wine…

Here’s to you quenching your thirst, Ninja!

Talon August 24, 2010 at 7:51 am

I like the courtship festival! Do people even court these days? I hope so – that’s the best part of a new relationship. :)

I’m not thirsting for anything just now…so I guess I’m temporarily replete. ;)

The Urban Cowboy August 24, 2010 at 8:24 am

Hi Talon, you are absolutely right…courtship seems to have taken a back seat nowadays…but not for a cowboy. Nothing beats it. :)

Citymom2 August 24, 2010 at 9:15 am

Well Cowboy,
must’ve been some fun times up in those mountains!
I looked up all the big words, whew (blotting face with hankie).
now sure I can read these at work anymore (blush).

Hi ya CityMom! I think it’s safe to say you had no problem with the words…after all you are a City Mom, right? BTW, I just love it when a woman blushes. ;)

I love haikus. I think they should be the only poetry allowed.

Except for all the other good poetry. Lordy, I’m indecisive today.

christiejolulu August 24, 2010 at 1:57 pm

What am I thirsting for…I am going to take this in a way that is not meant literally thirsty and say I am thirsting for my degree….It is so close but yet so far….

Reply

The Urban Cowboy August 24, 2010 at 2:17 pm

Hi christie! I know you have been pursuing this for a while…and it is just right around the corner! When you finally reach the end, your thirst will be quenched until your next goal!

When you do reach this, I will definitely raise a virtual…(demographically challenged) glass for a toast with ya!

UP August 24, 2010 at 12:46 pm

Well, Redneck Latte of course!

And, I think you’re in love again.

CityMom2 August 24, 2010 at 3:16 pm

Hey UP,
I had the same vibe from TUC.
I predict he’ll respond, “cowboys don’t kiss & tell

C-mom

The Urban Cowboy August 24, 2010 at 3:21 pm

You have that correct, CityMom…cowboys are gentlemen when it comes to their women.

However, this cowboy is single, no new love to speak of…still looking for that one.

Julliette O (LarvK) August 24, 2010 at 1:59 pm

No speaking morse code.

If it isn’t in the clouds… then where might it be?

The Urban Cowboy August 25, 2010 at 9:55 am

Be nice…today my head is somewhere dark, and it isn’t the clouds, or where you might wish it to be. :(

secret agent woman August 24, 2010 at 6:19 pm

No haiku in me tonight, but a nice glass of dry, earthy red wine is always welcome. A spicy zin-syrah blend I had recently, perhaps.

Angie August 24, 2010 at 7:33 pm

Oh, I LOVE this one! Fabulous. I feel like I should write this in lipstick on my bathroom mirror so I can see it every morning.

In related news, perhaps I have some psychotic tendencies.

Really, writing it in lipstick?

I can’t believe I’m going to click “submit” right now.

Delightful haiku, Cowboy. *Swoon*

Wonderful Haiku! It truly bleeds the passion that I thirst for. Or maybe that’s the glass of wine I’m using to quench my thirst that is speaking.
