10 Signs You May Be A Blog Addict

by The Urban Cowboy on May 27, 2010 · 44 comments

With so many people with their very own blogs, it was only a matter of time before the terms “blog addict” and “Internet addiction” began popping up.

So how do you really know if your a blog addict or not?

Wikipedia (your familiar with Wikipedia because your a blogger) defines addiction as:

“…a recurring compulsion by an individual to engage in some specific activity, despite harmful consequences, as deemed by the user himself to his individual health, mental state, or social life.”

Blog Addiction

Rolling the dice for blog addiction

So lets take a look at some of the signs you may be a blog addict, shall we?

10. Blogging is not just a way for you to pass away spare time anymore. It has somehow become your job, whether or not you’re actually making any money at it.

9. Laptops, RAM, and analytics have taken the place of libido, SEX, and foreplay. Extra comments if you are able to combine RAM with foreplay in any post.

8. Others around you are now referred to by their online identities, GF, BF, BFF, lurker, etc. You may even LOL them!

7. Google has become your primary source of information. Twitter your preferred method of communication and YouTube your source of entertainment.

6. Acquaintances online outnumber your “real life” friends, and you know more what each has done during the day than you do your own spouse or significant other (SOSO).

5. Daily events and activities are now planned around what your next post will be about. This includes but is not limited to food, drink and sex. Extra comments if you’re able to get your SOSO to do something really embarrassing.

4. Days are spent logging online every chance you get, whether at work or not. Your boss thinks of you as one of their hardest workers because you NEVER leave the computer. If only they knew most of the time you were busy leaving and checking comments. We will, because you will probably LOL them on your next post.

3. Internet connections are the determining factor where you stay when vacationing or traveling, and that’s only if you have a laptop.

2. Comments to your posts determine the mood your in. Because this varies throughout the day, people now think of you as being “moody”.

1. Twitter brought you to this article or your re-tweeting it and leaving a comment now. :)

If you add it up, it clearly spells that you may be a B L O G A D D I C T.

What do you think, are you a blog addict? Recovering blog addict? Or are you just taking your first baby steps on your way to becoming a blog addict?

Actually, I do get paid with some online article submissions. Unfortunately, that means doing more online research. While I’ve cut back on blogging (3 times a week down to 2 times) I’ve ramped it up with searches for article material.

My email checking is horrendous, but that’s how I find out if I got submissions due/news/other stuff. I’m happy to report I barely tweet (unless a writing contest asks me to) and I barely do Facebook since I just let my blog posts appear there automatically (maybe once a month I actually write something worthwhile). I try to unplug on weekends. For my other job besides freelance, it’s all outside work with no computers involved.

While I say I’m not a blog addict, I will say my baby steps into an Internet addict is well-assured. I stay away from Youtube as much as possible. At least I can keep that much of my sanity.

Actually I like being a blog addict. Blogging for me is fun and always an adventure. It doesn’t rule my life, I rule the blogging, but it is important to me. I enjoyed reading the list though.

Well, I think I would be an addict, but luckily my natural state of laziness prevents this. Oh laziness, how you improve my life.

–>I’m not an addict but I definitely have some “must read” blogs that I enjoy. These people are popular for a reason too.
My blog is about the things I do in real life with my family and friends. Some people bake, some people scrapbook. I blog.

Without my blog most of my friends (real people) and family wouldn’t know what we’re up to. Living so far, we don’t get much company. Plus, I like to show off my fur kids at any chance I get.

Have a great weekend and a wonderful holiday!

Och, don’t rub it in! I KNOW I am a blog-slave, this is my sodding JOB, I’m paid in comments, and even happilydonate all my endless over-time for free.. ’tis a sad (yet weirdly satisfying) state of affairs.

And on the bright side, it’s severly curtailed my shoe-shopping hours!

I prefer the term Blog Junkie…has a much sicker ring to it, don’t ya think?

And the sicker I sound, the better chance that my insurance will cover my addiction.

It’s all about beating the system.

Gotta go…blog is calling (-:

@Shrinky ~ Since blogging has curtailed your shoe shopping I guess your actually saving money, unfortunately, I just find more things online to spend money on.

@MrsBlogAlot ~ I like the sound of Blog Junkie, and I think that would be hilarious, submitting a medical claim for Blog Addiction (would make a good post too)…umm now you got me thinking.

@Jen ~ Thanks for stopping by, I thought your video ankle socks vs. tube socks rocked! Candyland rocks too.

@Allyson ~ Welcome! The best thing for a guilty conscience is to…blog a little more, and of course double up on the comment checking.

@Dazee ~ Your secret is safe with me, promise.

@Unknown Mami ~ I don’t think anyone wants to stop. :)

@Everyone ~ Blog addicts (blog junkies) rock! Blog On!
