Beer in Mexico

by The Urban Cowboy on July 30, 2010 · 63 comments

Kenny Chesney is one of my favorite artists, and I thought this song is fitting right now. Hope ya’ll enjoy!

Staring out into the wild blue yonder
So many thoughts to sit and ponder
About life and love and the lack of
And this emptiness in my heart
Too old to be wild and free
Still too young to be over the hill
Should try to grow up but who knows where to start.

So I’ll just sit right here and have another beer in Mexico
Do my best to waste another day
Sit right here and have another beer in Mexico
Let the warm air melt these blues away.

Sun comes up and the sun sinks down
And I’ve seen them both in this tourist town
Up for days in a rage
Just tryin’ to search my soul
For all the answers, and the reasons why
I’m at these crossroads in my life
And I really don’t know which way to go.

So I’ll just sit right here and have another beer in Mexico
Do my best to waste another day
Sit right here and have another beer in Mexico
Let the warm air melt these blues away.

Maybe I’ll settle down
Get married or stay single and stay free
Which road I travel is still a mystery to me.

So I’ll just sit right here and have another beer in Mexico
Do my best to waste another day
Sit right here and have another beer in Mexico
Let the warm air melt these blues away.

Down in Mexico…

Too old to be wild and free

stocking shelves

Still too young to be over the hill

Have Another Beer…

…in Mexico

I’ll have a beer in Mexico with Kenny…as long as the Key’s in the Conch Shell. I have all Kenny’s CD’s except for one, his music is perfect for summertime lazy days and nights.

Hi Charon,

His music rocks…you mean you wouldn’t have a beer in Mexico with me? Even if I’m buying?

…The story of my life. :(

–>Having a beer in Mexico is a lot better than being “… messed up in Mexico/ Livin’ on refried dreams…” like Tim McGraw.

Urban Cowboy, I love a lot Chesney’s songs, but I don’t like beer. Maybe I’ll change beer to wine or something! ;)

Everyone needs those kick-back-do-nothing days. They help maintain our sanity I think.

The Urban Cowboy July 30, 2010 at 12:48 pm

Hi Talon,

You can change the beer into whatever your heart desires. ;)

Yes, kick-back-do-nothing days are awesome!

Shelle-BlokThoughts July 30, 2010 at 8:51 am

So wait… are you telling me you are in Mexico? So am I!!!

What a coincidence.

Can I come over and watch you have a beer? I’m not allowed to drink it, but I sure do like watching people get drunk, it’s a never ending comedy show!

HEYYYY!!! That’s a great idea for a Reality Show!

Oh wait, nevermind, it’s already done on MTV. That Real World show…

anyway.

I’m kidding, I’m not really in Mexico.

Sigh.

Hey there Shelle,

Why are you not allowed to drink? Are you really a 10 year old boy? ;)

Raven July 30, 2010 at 10:29 am

Great lyrics. A toast to you! Enjoy your weekend and have a beer for me.

Take me to Mexico, Cowboy. We’ll drink a lot of beer and make some questionable decisions. :D

The Urban Cowboy July 30, 2010 at 5:07 pm

A very tempting proposition, indeed…much better one than Afghanistan.

Anonymous Momma Blogger July 30, 2010 at 5:57 pm

That’s what I keep trying to tell you, dearest. I’m never wrong about these things. ;)

Patti July 30, 2010 at 2:53 pm

“Too old to be wild and free
Still too young to be over the hill.”

You are neither, Cowboy.

About the time I hit that spot where I thought this applied, I decided the first line is pure bunk. It’s kind of like how “old ” is a moving target. (Remember when 30 was old?)

Mexico these days kind of scares me though. I opt for Margaritaville.

The Urban Cowboy July 30, 2010 at 5:09 pm

Oh, thank you Patti…I like the idea of “old” being a moving target. :) {double hand kisses} for you, my dear!

There are an awful lot of people at a crossroads right now. I have no idea which direction to go. Someone blindfold me, spin me around, and we’ll trust fate…

Reply

The Urban Cowboy July 31, 2010 at 6:11 am

Welcome Jen! Crossroads…many different trails to choose. Which way? I think I’ll just have another beer in Mexico….sometimes, it’s best to relax, and not rush down the first path we see.

Plus, it’s exciting to have the freedom to “do nothing” for a while. :)

Hope to see you here again!

Cornbread July 31, 2010 at 7:44 am

You picked my All-Time Fav….Kenny Chesney! I fell in love with him years ago when he wasn’t cool. I loved how he sang wise-ole songs at such a young age. ~~~~~~~Dreamy :)
Cheers to you Cowboy – sounds like you are on the way back to the top!

Angie August 1, 2010 at 12:02 pm

Great song- all the comments crack me up! I guess that is a crossroads. I say relax, have a beer or two and see what comes your way! ;)

Reply

The Urban Cowboy August 2, 2010 at 4:57 pm

Exactly, the key is not to try to force anything. ;)

Lynn August 1, 2010 at 5:13 pm

Cripes…am I the only one who noticed this is totally all about Bud Light? The voice is great, the message is awful. Beer has wrecked so many lives I’m close to it just saddens me to see it glorified like this.

Reply

The Urban Cowboy August 2, 2010 at 4:59 pm

Hi Lynn, that’s what is so awesome about songs. We each derive the message that speaks to us the most. That’s why a song can have many meanings. To me, this is a song about a man who is at a crossroads in his life. Rather than do something foolish, or attempt to force a certain path, he is relaxing…letting it come to him.

mommakiss August 4, 2010 at 9:08 pm

Um, I had a few beers in Montana. It’s like Mexico, starts w/ an M.
I love me some Kenny, too – his music is awesome.
Anyway – you stopped by – thank you, but no comment about the BOOTS?! I was sure you’d have something to say about them :p
