Veterans Day

November 11, 2009

I solemnly swear that I will support and defend the constitution of the United States against all enemies, foreign and domestic, that I will bear true faith and allegiance to the same, that I take this obligation freely, without mental reservation or purpose of evasion, and that I will well and faithfully discharge all duties and legal orders and the Uniform Code of Military Justice, so help me God! ~Oath of Allegiance.

On pillar’d brass shall tell their praise;
Shall tell – when cold neglect is dead-

~Oliver Wendell Holmes

But the freedom that they fought for, and the country grand they wrought for,

I enjoyed reading this so much. I wish everyone could realize what an honorable life it is to be in the military. We think of our people in uniform and war instantly comes to most minds. What people dont realize is that our soldiers do so much more. I was only 6 weeks old when my dad went to Vietnam. The pictures of him I love the most are the ones of him and his buddies putting on parties for the orphanage down the road from where they were stationed. Soldiers dont just make war (they do if they must) they HELP PEOPLE all around the world.

My country tis of thee, sweet land of liberty, of thee I sing! Land where my fathers died. Land of thy Pilgrim’s pride. From every mountainside, let freedom ring!!

Thank you, thank you, thank you, thank you, thank you.

All profound words & thoughts. It has crossed my mind that for some, surviving the atrocities of war may very well be the greater sacrifice. To bring home the memories of untold horrors must truly be a relentless hell.
