Join The Urban Cowboy as he quits smoking and kicks the smoking habit in the butt.
My friend my enemy
Tuesday was much like the first day, rather than tell you the same ole story, I thought I would pen a little something that those of you that smoke or did may relate to.
When I sip my coffee you always are there
Enjoying a beer you always seem near
Together we are never having a care
You’re my friend my enemyWhen life gets tough, you stick by my side
In times of need you whisper in my ear
To trust you and hold you never let go of you
You’re my friend my enemyEvery day I reach for your touch with disdain
I breath you in soothing my pain
Dead or alive by your lips comes fame
You’re my friend my enemyHappy or sad, you’re the one I can’t shake
You stole my loyalty, now my life is at stake
You tell me to trust as I slowly suffocate
You’re my friend my enemyThis habit for you surely is bad
If only I knew my health you would have
Giving you up for my life to be had
You’re my friend my enemyNow it’s time to buck up to this stupid ass fear
No longer a prisoner of your smoke and your mirrors
You better shut up away from you I must steer
You’re my friend my enemy
Kinda lame…but I think you’all get the point, plus I can’t think of anything else to write right now!

You poor thing. I’ve never smoked, by my MIL and FIL (did) and my SIL smoke. The SIL keeps trying to quit–it’s so rough!

There’s nothing lame about the strength you are exhibiting by defeating the smoking habit. Know that each hour that passes without smoking a cigarette is literally extending your life, not to mention improving the quality of life too!
It is wise that you have an outlet for your feelings and use it (speaking of your writing). Whenever we rid ourselves of an undesirable habit, it is extremely helpful to replace the bad habit with a good one. That way, you’re not giving anything up! You’re just trading something negative in your life for something positive!
Keep going Cowboy! You CAN do it!

I have to agree with what Keith said! I quit smoking 3 1/2 yrs ago after having smoked for about 12 years…I quit cold turkey, never touched it again…Best thing I’ve ever done, I haven’t been as healthy as I am now for over a decade!! So I think you are awesome for trying!! Good luck!!

Good on you for giving up – nothing good will ever come out of smoking – so well done – particularly as you have had a really tough time – so I am sure it was a crutch for you….well done for hanging in there…..

I am so glad I found this! Today is DAY 2 for me too and honestly, I am hanging on by a thread but its so important to me to succeed. Nothing good comes from smoking, nothing good at all. We can do this Cowboy.
Its so totally true Cowboy. You are quite the poet!

Good luck to ya Betsy!
I was a smoker for 21 years. I started when I was 12 and finally quite at age 32. I’m 36 now & have been smoke free for 4 years. I still experience cravings even after so long, but it’s nothing like the first 3 months. That was rough times.
What I did to quit was substute my nicotine addiction with another addiction, Caffiene. Basically I drank coffee & soda to curb the nicottine craving & always had a pocket full of jolly ranchers to curb the habbit of having something in my mouth. The combination of the jolly rancher to suck on & the caffeine help me get through the hardest times.
Just goes to show I suppose that what works for one may not always work for another. It’s good to keep your options open though and try new things till you find what works for you.
