HotBloods

by The Urban Cowboy on December 9, 2009

Hot blooded horses are known for their speed, strength, conformation, and “hot blooded” temperament. Hotbloods include only two recognized breeds, the Arabian and the Thoroughbred.

Hotbloods are the oldest of all equine breeds, and are known for their beauty and elegance as well as their fiery personalities. Hotbloods possess great endurance and soundness, making them ideal for long distance and endurance riding.

Breeding hotbloods with the stronger, working coldbloods created the popular warmbloods.

The Arabian Horse

All horse breeds today can trace their ancestry back to the Arabian. The Arabian is considered the most prized and costly breed of horse.

Arabian horses bred in the United States typically have a very strong personality, and are recommended for experienced riders. While Arabians found in the Middle East are often quiet and even tempered, unlike those found in the US. This breed is also known for their affectionate disposition.

The Thoroughbred Horse

The thoroughbred horse was first bred by the English in the 1700s for the purpose of racing. Considered the fastest of breeds, the thoroughbred is known for its athletic ability, stamina, and courage. Typically inexperienced riders find the thoroughbred more difficult to handle than other breeds because of its hotblooded demeanor and disposition.
