I was in the mood for a little music this past weekend, so I decided to check out the folk music fest that was happening. The Thirteenth Annual Tumbleweed Music Festival was held at Howard Amon Park in Richland, WA September 5-6, 2009.

It turns out the folk music festival attracts people from all walks of life. Who would have guessed that pirates like folk music.

Or Lady Liberty?

I couldn’t tell if this was one of the Three Musketeers, or Dr. Seuss, but you gotta love that feather in the hat. It’s bigger than mine!

Of course there were plenty of trees enjoying the soothing sounds of folk music today.

Performers were found practicing throughout the grounds.

And there were plenty of performances to last the weekend by various artists.

The only thing The Urban Cowboy was missing was…a hammock, or the very least a folding chair like so many other folksy folks brought. Oh well, at least I know what to bring next time.
How many others enjoy folk music? Or attend folk festivals? Let us know what your memorible experiences are at these types of festivals.

–>I’ve never been to a folk music festival. However, the people watching looks like it would be more fun than the listening to the music!

Dude what in the world was that man doing to that tree? Courting it? And those socks, they don’t match the feather at all. I think they may have been passing some stuff around at the door there. Like crack…

How fun! Of course, we are very partial to ‘folk music’ since our son is a fiddler (you can here snippets of his old-time Missouri fiddling on the sidebar of the blog -shameless plug
). I love all types of music, but there is something about the sound of a fiddle that makes my heart sing, and can turn my bad day into good. It’s always been that way. We still have fiddle contests in our state, and we have many memories of those. Also, there are loud, amp-y bluegrass festivals. But I really love that 100% acoustic stuff, personally! -Tammy

I love random pictures of people! The pirates were especially funny. Festivals are fun. I’m waiting for a chocolate festival. Maybe I should just start one. How does one go about starting a festival anyway???
