Cowboy Memories

July 19, 2009

This weekend I have been reflecting on the happenings in my life this past year. I have definitely been through a lot, and to tell you the truth, if you were to tell me a year ago where I would be right now, I would have thought you crazy.

One of my dearest of memories takes place in the pasture with my butterfly. There is a rock shelf, and in the middle of the night, it makes a very comfortable place for two people to enjoy the moonlight.

Grabbing a couple blue mountains and a flashlight, my wife and I would walk down the pasture to the rock shelf. After getting nice and comfy, the horses would usually come to investigate our presence. Once we reassure them that it’s just family, the horses would just meander around, sometimes poking us with their muzzles.

What I cherish most of this memory is the fact that while out together in the middle of the night like this, nothing else in the world mattered. We had 100 percent of our focus on one another, and nothing else.

Hearing the howls from distant coyotes, we would have much fun answering back in our best coyote howling imitation. I think we would do pretty good too, because I know they were answering back.

If there was ONE thing I could be doing right now, this is it! I would choose this over ANYTHING else right now. Nothing else compares to sitting next to the one you love, staring at a full moon, sharing a drink, talking with the coyotes, stealing kisses, and…simply enjoying being together. If you ever see this butterfly, know these memories have touched my spirit.

What is it you like to do which has created an everlasting impression and memory in your life?

Driving through rural northern California wine country (Mendocino and Sonoma Counties) with my husband in a little convertible, stopping at small family run wineries for tastings, buying two bottles at each place for our collection. It was awesome.

Loved reading your post…Just passing by, hopefull I can read more later..

I tell you the one thing I have found that I do on a daily basis, being out in the middle of no-where has shown me the beauty of the sunsets and sitting or dancing under the stars with my Hubby…Very humbling to live in this slow paced lifestyle..
