Cherries On Top

Entering the lounge, I immediately found an empty stool at the bar. The bartender serving me caught my attention. She had a tattoo of cherries on her neck. Millie, it turns out, had quite a few ink markings with most being under cover.

When I inquired as to the significance of the cherries, Millie replied that she had always wanted a sword on her neck, just like Taarna in Heavy Metal.

For those of you not familiar with Heavy Metal, it was an animation film back in 1981, with 8 short stories revolving around the “Loc-Nar,” a glowing sphere, unbounded by time or space, that represents “the sum of all evils.” In each story, the Loc-Nar demonstrates its capacity for evil, and its malevolent influence and manipulation of human affairs.

A friend had suggested that instead of a sword, she get a couple cherries, that way he could bite them. Well, she ended up with the cherries, but Millie informed me her friend never did get to bite them. You win some, you lose some.
