Bone Marrow

Have you ever wanted to save a life? As a donor of bone marrow, you literally have the power to give life to someone.

The Urban Cowboy was recently in Tacoma, WA when he met Brian Williams at a local hop stop.

You see, Brian is accompanying Jeana Moore who is walking from Seattle to Los Angeles and Los Angeles to New York City, to raise awareness around the need for bone marrow donors and to recruit potential bone marrow donors for the National Registry.

Unfortunately, I did not get the opportunity to meet Jeana in person. Turns out, Jeana is the grandmother of Jada…who at birth needed a bone marrow transplant. At two years old, Jada is now living life because of her donor.

As an expression of gratitude to the community that supported Jada through her battle with leukemia and to her donor, Jeana Moore is walking to recruit donors for the National Bone Marrow Registry.

If you would like to learn more about Jeana, Jada and the Steps To Marrow. Steps To Marrow

So what do you say? Lets make a difference and give someone a chance to live their dreams. Join the marrow registry with The Urban Cowboy!

It’s a truly generous thing to do. I donate blood on a regular basis because it’s relatively easy to do, doesn’t cost me a thing, and has the potential to save a life. Bone marrow donation is a little more involved, but no less important a gift. Let us know how it goes.

I’ve been on the registry for a number of years. A friend needed a bone marrow transplant and a bunch of her colleagues and buddies banded together for a ‘get registered’ party. Fortunately, she found a match – far from home. And it saved her life. Great post – great reminder! -Tammy p.s. Even though I am on the bone marrow registry, I have never donated blood, so that I really need to do!

This is great. I am like Carolynn and donate blood, but have not (yet) done bone marrow. Thanks for the link to check it out in more detail.

I’ll share this in my Reader too.

Donald and I were discussing this recently. Right now, he’s an apheresis donor and a blood donor (I don’t currently qualify for either, but hopefully will again soon) and we were talking about whether or not he would be considering bone marrow as an option. His biggest concern was that he would have to be less interactive with our daughter while he was recovering. I pointed out that if someone had the power to save her by donating bone marrow, then he’d give his right testicle to have them interact with their baby a little less during their recovery.

So we’ll see, but in the meantime, I am soooo glad that you featured this. Hats off to you!

thanks cowboy for giving stepstomarrow.com some publicity. they need lots of coverage and help. That isn’t what Brian set out to do but I am so proud of him.People need to realize there are so many ways to help. If not monetary to Jada Bascom Foundation, they can also donate blood in her name as well. Also if Brian and Jeana are coming to your city or town, you can help them as well, by providing a place for them to wash, sleep, eat,new walking shoes ,prayers and good wishes. Everyone along their way has been wonderful. Remember donations go to Foundation not to Brian and Jeana so folks they too need your help. Thanks
